Lent is here, and with it comes a powerful opportunity to recharge spiritually and sharpen our vision for the year ahead. Today, we’re excited to announce Power to the People, a Lent initiative designed especially for faith-based Black leaders and entrepreneurs. This campaign is all about balancing spiritual discipline with strategic planning. Over the next 40 days, as we fast and pray, we’ll also reflect on our journey so far and game plan for the remainder of 2025.
Why “Power to the People”?
As Black leaders and entrepreneurs, we carry the hopes of our communities on our shoulders. “Power to the People” isn’t just a catchy slogan—it’s a call to tap into the divine power that’s already within us and use it to uplift our people. During Lent, we traditionally sacrifice (through fasting) and draw closer to God in prayer. At the same time, we can harness this season of focus and clarity to think strategically about our goals. Spiritual growth and business growth don’t have to be separate. In fact, when aligned, they make us unstoppable.
Spiritual Preparation Meets Strategic Planning
Fasting and prayer are tools that refine our spirit. When we deny ourselves certain comforts, we become more sensitive to God’s voice. Think of fasting as clearing out the noise and prayer as tuning into the right frequency. On the flip side, reflection and planning are like a strategy session for your life’s mission. We’re nearing the end of Q1 2025, which means we’ve gathered some valuable lessons in these first few months. It’s the perfect time to pause and ask: What has God revealed so far about my path? What adjustments should I make moving forward? By combining these spiritual and strategic practices, we’re essentially asking God to be the CEO of our vision while we act in obedience and wisdom.
Aligning with God’s Plan After Q1
The first quarter of the year is almost behind us. Maybe you’ve hit some targets or maybe you’ve faced some unexpected challenges. Either way, you now have real data and experiences to inform your next steps. As faith-driven entrepreneurs, we don’t plan in a vacuum—we plan with prayerful intention. This means taking what we’ve learned in Q1 and laying it before God. When we align our Q2, Q3, and Q4 plans with God’s intentions, we can move forward with confidence, knowing our plans carry His blessing. Scripture reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3). We want the rest of 2025 to be established by the Lord, not just our own ambition.
Day 1 – God Sees Our Oppression (Exodus 3:7–8)
Every day during Power to the People, we’ll focus on a Bible verse that guides our reflection. For Day 1, our scripture is Exodus 3:7–8. In this passage, God speaks to Moses from the burning bush:
“I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them…” (Exodus 3:7–8 NIV)
This ancient promise to liberate the Israelites from oppression resonates deeply with us today. As Black professionals, we’re no strangers to systemic oppression and barriers that others might not see. But take heart—just as God saw the suffering of His people in Egypt, He sees us in our struggles too. God was not indifferent then, and He isn’t indifferent now. Exodus 3:7–8 assures us that God is aware of injustice and is actively working to deliver His people. This means that our fight for equity in business, our push for representation, and our efforts to break glass ceilings are seen and backed by the Almighty. There’s comfort and power in knowing that God not only hears our cries for change but also moves to make a way for us.
Answering the Call – Faith in Action
“Power to the People” is about putting faith into action. It’s a rallying cry to let our spiritual convictions fuel our professional and personal aspirations. Here’s how you can join us starting today:
- Fast: Choose something meaningful to fast from during Lent (food, social media, etc.). Let that sacrifice remind you to depend on God daily.
- Pray: Set aside time each day for prayer and meditation. Seek God’s guidance for your life, your business, and your community. Pray about the vision you have for 2025 and listen for His direction.
- Plan: Use this reflective season to strategize. Write down your goals for the rest of the year. What does success look like by December? Map out actionable steps for Q2, Q3, Q4. Do this work prayerfully, asking God to lead you in every decision.
By committing to these three steps—fasting, praying, and planning—we believe you’ll emerge from Lent not only closer to God, but also equipped with a clear, God-aligned blueprint for the future.
Committing to the Journey
Today is Day 1 of an intentional, life-changing journey. Power to the People is more than an initiative; it’s a movement of believers who refuse to separate their faith from their fight for progress. As we begin this Lent season, remember that you’re not alone. We are a community of Black leaders and entrepreneurs standing together, seeking God’s face and strategizing for success. Let’s commit to walk these 40 days together in solidarity and purpose.
So, will you join us? Starting now, make the choice to engage fully in fasting, prayer, and planning. Drop a comment or send us a message to let us know you’re in this journey with us. Let’s hold each other accountable and lift each other up. With God on our side, 2025 better watch out — because we’re coming with power, purpose, and a plan.
